Q: Where do the instructors for the Honors Academies come from?
A: All our instructors are specially chosen by Stanford University’s Education Program for Gifted Youth. These individuals have either obtained their graduate degrees or are in the midst of pursuing them. They are selected not just for their knowledge in the course material that they are teaching, but for their ability to interact with young students as well.
Q: Where are the teaching assistants from?
A: Our teaching assistants are selected from the local universities, and are either undergraduates or graduate students majoring in the subject matter for which they are teaching.
Q: Is there transportation provided for students?
A: Unfortunately, V-Campus does not arrange for transportation to and from the course venue at this time.
Q: Are there housing arrangements for international students?
A: For students travelling to Singapore to attend the Holiday Camps, V-Campus can arrange for your stay at one of our partner hotels. Do let us know one month prior to your expected date of arrival in Singapore so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
Q: Will refreshments be provided during the breaks?
A: Classroom breaks are decided by the instructors, but refreshments are not provided.
A: Lunch is provided daily, and we are able to cater to vegetarians who indicate their dietary requirements upon applying for the course. The full cost of lunch is absorbed by V-Campus and is not included in the course fees.
Q: I have been accepted for the Honors Academies, but I need to withdraw. What happens now?
A: If you have applied for one of our Holiday Camps but need to withdraw, you will need to notify us in writing (either via email or by post) 4 weeks prior to the start of the Holiday Camp to obtain a full refund of the course fees. Withdrawals made less than 4 weeks prior to the start of the Holiday Camp will not qualify for any refund.
Q: What happens if I miss several days of class during the Honors Academies?
A: Students will be considered as having successfully completed the course if they attend a minimum of 70% of the classes during the Holiday Camp. On days when they miss a class, they should inform either their instructor or teaching assistants, who will then arrange for the day’s work to be given to them via email.
Q: How will students benefit from participating in the Honors Academies?
A: The academic programming provided by Stanford University’s Education Program for Gifted Youth follows their own curriculum. While we do not prepare students with examinations specifically in mind, the material is designed to enhance students’ existing knowledge in their subject of choice and to teach them material not typically taught in a classroom setting at their grade level.
Q: How do students qualify for the Honors Academies?
A: We assess students using a combination of their latest school reports and writing samples (only for those applying for writing courses). It is important to ensure the suitability of the students for their selected courses so that they will be able to reap maximum benefit from them.
